Porsche 356 C Convertible

The art of open-air elegance.
Some motor cars seem to have been created expressly for sunny days, beautiful coastal roads and journeys undertaken for no other reason than the sheer pleasure of travelling. The Porsche 356 Cabriolet is undoubtedly one of them. With its graceful curves, beautifully balanced proportions and effortless elegance, it embodies a particular vision of the sports car, one in which refinement and driving pleasure exist in perfect harmony.
Born in 1948 from Ferry Porsche’s vision of the ideal sports car, the 356 laid the foundations for one of the most celebrated names in motoring history. Light, agile and blessed with an unmistakable mechanical personality, it soon found favour amongst discerning enthusiasts who appreciated both its character and the purity of its design. Introduced in 1963, the 356 C represented the final evolution of Porsche’s original sports car. More technically accomplished, notably through the adoption of four-wheel disc brakes, it marked the culmination of a remarkable chapter in the marque’s history.
Our 1964 example belongs to the very last years of 356 production, before the 911 assumed its place as Porsche’s principal sports car. Having undergone a comprehensive restoration, this beautiful Cabriolet is presented in a particularly distinguished colour combination: deep black coachwork complemented by a striking Cartier Red interior. The contrast is simply captivating.
The rich black finish lends an almost sculptural quality to the flowing curves of the 356, whilst the vibrant red upholstery introduces a wonderful sense of warmth and individuality, transforming an already elegant sports car into something truly special. With the hood lowered, the effect becomes even more enchanting. One can easily imagine this Porsche following the Mediterranean coastline, passing through the picturesque villages of the French Riviera or resting outside a grand hotel, possessing that effortless confidence found only in genuinely timeless motor cars. Yet there is rather more to this 356 than its considerable visual appeal.
Its celebrated air-cooled flat-four engine has benefited from a Big Bore conversion, increasing capacity to 1,720 cc and bringing the quoted output to 110 bhp, compared with the original 75 bhp. This welcome enhancement promises a noticeably more spirited driving experience, with improved flexibility, stronger acceleration and a character particularly well suited to enjoying today’s roads.
Importantly, the conversion retains everything that makes Porsche’s original air-cooled engine so appealing: its distinctive soundtrack, engaging mechanical personality and the wonderful sense of lightness that defines the early cars. The combination of a comprehensive restoration, enhanced mechanical performance and such a beautifully chosen colour scheme gives this particular Cabriolet an irresistible charm.
For owning a Porsche 356 Cabriolet is about embracing a certain philosophy of motoring: taking the scenic route, appreciating the journey rather than merely the destination, and rediscovering the simple pleasure of travelling beneath an open sky. This 1965 Porsche 356 C Cabriolet captures that spirit beautifully, offering a particularly appealing blend of elegance, character and open-air enjoyment. A Porsche to be savoured with the hood down, where the glamour of the 1960s meets timeless elegance and the pure pleasure of driving.
